The Epson 27Xl are at last available as compatible ink cartridges working with the latest range of Workforce printers from Epson. The Epson Workforce WF-3640 has created such a buzz that we decided to review the printer and the running costs using compatible ink cartridges. This latest generation of Epson printer has great paper handling with a very impressive set of features for the small office. The printer deemed to be most suitable for a moderate to heavy print business or home user.
Some of the basic features allow printing with the facility to fax from the printer as well as scanning and it will also act as a stand-alone printer. There is also a USB input enabling the printing direct from a memory stick or card. The printer can be connected via cable or Wi-Fi and it’s possible to print from an Apple or Android device. It’s also possible to scan to email or print from a cloud service. The printer will also has a feature for duplex scanning and printing. The paper handling is certainly one of the printer’s string points as it can hold up to 250 sheets in each drawer. For size, the printer is too large to position on your desktop and would be best situated on a table as a stand-alone.
The printer uses four color 27Xl ink cartridges, black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Each ink cartridge is replaceable individually as and when the printer notifies the user of low ink. The compatible ink cartridges are available with free delivery online for as little as €2 a cartridge when bought as part of a multipack and make the printer a viable economical print source.
This printer has a particularly high standard for text print out, although it won’t reach the high standard of laser print, with graphic images printing fairly standard quality, adequate for general business requirements. Printing on gloss photo paper will raise the game and give superb photo quality. The printer has an integrated 3.5inch colour touch screen control panel and has a very well designed menu feature that allows easy command for scanning, copying or faxing.
The Epson Workforce WF-3640 is a good all round printer and of course the important issue is the running costs and with compatible ink cartridges it comes into it’s own. Costing at around €250 for the initial purchase the printer offers good value and is an acceptable investment for the medium to heavy user at home or in the office.
